In Visual Basic 6 How to Program, the authors mention that

I cannot find them. So where are they?
We decided not to post the images on our Web site, because they are included
with the examples. Each example that uses images contains those images
in its directory. (Note: some images are common to several examples and
are in a directory named common) The book examples
are available on the CD-ROM in the back of Visual Basic 6 How to Program
and are available for download from our Web site.
The CD-ROM
included with the book does not work. How do I go about getting another
copy of the CD-ROM?
If the CD-ROM is faulty, you will need
to return the book to the place of purchase.

installed on my machine. When I use the book's CD-ROM, I get a message
asking if the version of Visual Basic 6 on the CD-ROM should be installed.

If you already have a version of Visual Basic 6
installed on your machine, do not install the version of Visual Basic 6
included on the CD-ROM. The examples will execute fine with your version
of Visual Basic 6.
