Dive Into® Series Introduction to SQL and SQL Server

This course introduces database concepts and programming. Topics covered include relational database design principles, SQL statements, stored procedures and database objects, including tables, views and triggers. We will also cover the use of transactions for maintaining data integrity.

Prerequisites

  • General familiarity with your operating environment
  • Ability to create and edit text files
  • Ability to program in ANSI C or C at the level of "C and Object-Oriented Programming"

Objectives

  • Understand the relational database model
  • Use Microsoft Access to connect to a SQL Server database
  • Create and execute data definition language (DDL) statements
  • Create and execute data manipulation language (DML) statements
  • Create and execute data control language (DCL) statements
  • Create database objects, such as Tables, Indexes and Views
  • Create and use SQL SELECT statements for retrieving data from a database
  • Create and use SQL INSERT statements for adding data to a database
  • Create and use SQL UPDATE statements for modifying data in a database
  • Create and use SQL DELETE statements for deleting database objects
  • Create and use stored procedures
  • Create and use triggers
  • Create and use cursors
  • Create and use transactions
